We've Been Here for 6 Weeks!

Time flies very quickly in the mission. 

These fine missionaries have been here in the mission for 6 weeks.

We started our training today with a session in the temple.

 A wonderful meeting, a great spirit, and the best missionaries in the entire world…

right here in the Trujillo Peru North Mission!

From the blog, I am sure it looks like all we do is have meetings and trainings. 

A majority of President Marler's and my time is spent in this manner, with various groups of missionaries.  It is our responsibility to train, assist and bless the lives of the missionaries.

We teach the missionaries skills to help them keep physically, spiritually and emotionally healthy.

…and most important to be great ambassadors for Christ, inviting the Children of God

to come unto Christ and accept his atoning sacrifice for them.

How great is our calling!

The Placencia Family…now an Eternal Family

It was our pleasure to be in the temple with our friends, the Placencia Family on Wednesday, 

August 26 when they were sealed for time and all eternity.  

 We first met Liliana when she was cutting President Marler's hair two years ago.

Many friends attended the wedding and Elder Kaelin and Elder Claros were there too, it was a beautiful day. 

Some of you sisters may remember Sister Liliana who did some make-overs for our

Sister Leader Trainers, in October of 2013.

Their Last Week

Because of the temple dedication, we had this group of missionaries an extra week.  The kept themselves busy, they visited those from the temple open house that had requested visits, they gave specialized trainings to companionships throughout the mission, and they worked in the office with Sister Vaughan and Sister Angell.

The highlight of their week was attending the Cultural Celebration
and Dedication of the Trujillo Temple
and attending the first public session.

Trujillo Temple Open House on Saturday, May 16

1000s of people came to the Trujillo Temple today.

There were busses from Piura, Chimbote, Casma,Otusco and Huamachuco

 and people from Guadalupe, Cajamarca, Trujillo.

 It was an amazing site to see so many enter the doors of the House of the Lord. 

I was touched by the dedication and sacrifice of those who traveled, 8, 10 or 12 hours to see the temple, feel of the Spirit of the Lord,

walk on the temple grounds, have lunch on the grounds.

 They waited in lines with smiles on their faces, some with families and others with missionaries.

Look carefully and you will see Hermana Afoa, Hermana De Gracia, Elder Cano and Elder Garcia.

I couldn't resist this beautiful family.

 An Extra special surprise today, Sister Huayton's family came to the temple from Lima.  Sister Huayton didn't know they were at the temple when we called her in to come work the morning shift.

She was so surprised and happy when she noticed her family at the door of the temple. 

She was able to go though the temple with them, and share her testimony of the temple.

Sister Hidalgo was also surprised today, she walked into the "Carpa de Video" to start the video and help the
guests get settled, and she saw her mother, sister, aunt and cousin in the room.
She also was able to enter the temple with her family.

It was a wonderful day, full of joy, hope, spiritual feelings.

Why We Build Temples?

We are often asked, Why do you have a temple?

  What is the difference between a Chapel and a Temple?  

Why do you have an "Open House" and invite everyone to visit?  

I would like to answers these questions and share with you some pictures of a few of the 

temple that are some of my favorites.

The Trujillo Peru Temple

We, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints build temples because the Lord has asked us to build a House unto Him.

It is a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order,

It is the House of God.

(Doctrine and Covenants Section 88:119)

These are my children in front of the San Diego temple the day that our oldest daughter,
Becky was sealed to her husband. 

Every temple looks different on the inside and out, but each temple performs the exact same ordinances.  

It is within the temple that we receive some of the greatest gifts given by our Heavenly Father.  

The include the ordinances of Baptism in behalf of our ancestors, "the Endowment" (the word actually means the Gift), which is a time of instruction and learning, and "Sealings" of Families for Eternity.

We do not marry only for this life, "until death do you part", but for all eternity.

Thus our families are a sacred part of our lives forever.

 The Oquirrh Mountain Temple, at the Open House with friends of various faiths, we were blessed to receive a tour by Elder Clayton and Elder Walker.
We invite our friends to attend Open Houses before the temples are dedicated to the Lord.
This gives them the opportunity to see inside the temple and have a greater understanding of
The House of the Lord
It is always an honor to have our guests visit the temple, 
and to have them more fully understand our faith. 

The Mesa Arizona Temple, where my son. Brian and his wife, Tiffany were Sealed for Eternity. 

Our chapels are where we attend church every Sunday. 

We have a variety of activities, we work on family history, we have youth activities each week,

 and a variety of other activities for the family.

The Salt Lake City Temple, built by the pioneers of the Church in the late 1800's. 

It stands as a symbol of our love of God to the world.
