Elder Juarez Arrives in Trujillo Norte

Elder Juarez joined the mission last week, from Lima.

We are so happy to have him with us.

 The office staff met Elder Juarez at the airport and then we headed to the office for some training.

 Of course there was a quick stop at the temple, we invite everyone to come unto Christ

That includes an invitation to His Holy Temple, to receive His ordinances.

 Elder Higuera hides around the corner, ready to greet his new companion.

 Elder Higuera will be training Elder Juarez for the next 12 weeks.

What a great companionship.

The Road to Chota

headed to Chota last weekend.

It is a beautiful 8 hour drive through Pacasmayo, Chiclayo,

and beyond, high into the Sierra.

 There were grape vineyards as far as the eye could see.

In this river-bed, taxi drivers were washing their moto-taxis.

Finally a sign that says this way to Chota, they must be on the right road.

This is a man made water fall, in the middle of nowhere.  Elder Bond,President
Jave, President Marler and Elder Marshall had to stop for a selfie.

There were also miles and miles of rice patties.
Some of the best rice in the world in grown between Pacasmayo and Chota.

 Climbing into the mountains they reached an altitude of 12,500 + feet.  

 A travel post wouldn't be complete without a few animal shots along the way.

They saw some goats just walking down the street.

…and this cute little donkey just begged to have his picture taken.

We don't see many pack horses here, but this guy is working hard to get his load up to the mercado.

They visited the home of several members, preparing for the Sunday meetings.

 They had a wonderful trip, it was very successful.  44 members attended Church and there were

invitations give to more.  It looks like Chota will be growing in numbers in the near future.

Two Weddings this last Month

One of the joys of serving in this calling

is just watching our missionaries grow after their mission.

Missionaries return home, serve in amazing callings such as teachers of youth, 

Seminary Teachers, Relief Society Presidents, Elder's Quorum Presidents and Counselors, and Ward Mission Leaders, Counselors in a Bishopric, and Primary Teachers.

They continue their education, find excellent jobs to support and sustain their families.

They are sealed in the temple to their eternal sweethearts.

Elder Easton Wengert, married his lovely bride, Jaime in August.

Sister Jennifer Villanueva married her eternal companion, Rodolfo, last week.

We Love Family History!

In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 

we love Family History.

with Sister Nuñez and Sister Pineda welcome guests to the Family History Fair.

It is the Doctrine of Christ that each person must hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ,

and for himself accept or reject these teachings. 

Being a fair and unchanging God, these blessings are available to all, 

those living and those who have passed on to the other side of the veil.

For the Family History Fair,
classes were taught, presentations given and there was lots of information on doing your own family history.

We do genealogy research to find our kindred dead and perform ordinances, such as baptism, in our temples, for them.

In this way, they can then accept or reject the teachings of Christ and his atoning sacrifice for them.

I am so thankful for a loving God, who provides a path for all of his children to return to him, not only those who lived after his birth, death and resurrection.

 Here are some of the youth of the Primavera Stake doing indexing.  This means they are extracting names and dates from birth records here in Peru, and submitting those names for their ordinances.

New Nurses get Trained

In our mission we have "assigned nurses".  

These sisters are trained to be the first line of defense against disease, colds, and the flu.

They teach classes on prevention and cleanliness to our other missionaries.

They listen to each missionary who has aches, pains, colds or vomits and 

helps them decide if it is life threatening and they need to go to the hospital,

 or if they need to drink more water and rest during lunch time.

On the right is Sister Olson, she is a real Registered Nurse, and we are

so happy to have her in the mission. 

She will begin helping with nursing duties after her 12 week training is completed. 

Baptism in Primavera!

This was a very special Baptism for Sister Canizales, Sister McQueen and Sister Sofán.
