A Great Day for Training

5 weeks after a group of missionaries come into the mission, we have a gathering of the new missionaries and their trainers. We provide training, support and help.  In addition, they have an opportunity to share with us how their training is going and what they think could be done better in the future.

Elder Boekweg and Elder Zavaleta gave a great training, and it was great to hear Elder Boekweg teaching.

A Temple Update

On Mother's Day the Temple Grounds were open to help the flow of traffic at the Cemetery next door. Thousands of people visit their mom's, leave flowers, have picnics and enjoy the lovely grounds.
As you can see the temple is coming along beautifully.
We hope to see it completed sometime late in 2016
What a blessing for Trujillo and the surrounding area

Bienvenidos a la oficina, Elder Winterton

We never have a dull moment here in the Trujillo Mission.  Today, Elder Winterton joined the office staff as the Personal Secretary to President and Sister Marler.

President Marler, Elder Winterton and Elder Boekweg

You may recognize Elder Winterton from the Christmas Concert, he sang a beautiful rendition of "The Lord's Prayer"

We are happy to have Elder Winterton here, but we will surely miss Elder Boekweg.
Here Elder Winterton poses with his new companion, Elder Leavitt

Huaca Castillo

Every once in awhile we find time to visit an historic site here in Peru.  This is the area around Chimbote, about 3 hours south of Trujillo.
This is the view from the top of the Huaca Castillo near Chimbote.  It is surrounded by beautiful farms. We walked through many of these farms to find the Huaca, met some wonderful people and visited along the way.
We have more ruin within our mission than any other place in South America.  We really enjoy visiting the different sites and learning little more history about the people of ancient America.

We found many pieces of Moche pots and bones.  We posed here with one of our "new found friends."

Cookies at the Mission Home

Sister Callata, Sister Calle and Sister Bills came by the mission home yesterday to make some homemade ginger snaps.  They were so delicious.  Now if I only had a glass of cold 1% right out of the fridge.

Here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
2 cups flour                                  3/4 cup shortening
1 tablespoon ground ginger          1 cup white sugar (o rubio)
2 teaspoons baking soda               1 egg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon        1/4 cup dark molasses
1/2 teaspoon salt                            1/3 cup cinnamon sugar

Direction:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 C.)
2. Mix dry ingredients- except sugar
3. Beat shortening until creamy, beat in white sugar, egg, then dark molasses
    Add dry ingredients slowly
4. Roll balls of dough, 1 inching in size, roll in cinnamon sugar, place on ungreased baking sheet
5. Bake in preheated oven until the tips are rounded and slightly cracked. about 10 minutes

Porvenir Stake Provides a night of Music and the Spoken Word

The Porvenir Stake held a special evening with the Stake President and Mission President. (April 27) The purpose of the event was to invite the neighborhood to come and hear about the
 Gospel of Jesus Christ.
It was a beautiful night of music and testimonies of our Savior.
The Trujillo Mission Choir sang under the direction of Sister Wayman
Presidente Quiñones of the Porvenir Stake had this wonderful idea to gather everyone together  for this wonderful evening
President Quiñones spoke of the "Obra De Salvación"  and the great need for us to hasten the work of the Lord in these "last days", before the second coming of the Lord.  He invited all to come unto Christ, and follow in his footsteps.
The Missionaries arrived to start the program by singing "Called to Serve Him" as they entered the Chapel

Another photo of the Missionary Choir
Elder Brown, Elder Rodriguez, Elder Rodriguez, Elder Pacheco, Elder Marchant
sang a beautiful arrangement "O, My Father"
Elder Haake plays a violin solo, "I know that My Redeemer Lives"
President Marler shared a message of the Resurrected Lord, and his great love for all of His children here on the earth.  He expressed his gratitude for the atonement of Jesus Christ.
Not everyone was present for the beginning of the meeting, but in usually Peruvian style, the Chapel was filled with 500 people during the program.  Many who attended, not only enjoyed the program, but have met with the missionaries for lessons and have been baptized.
What a great experience!
